Chat about the it-shoe can get a bit tiring, but we can’t not admit that the Puma Speedcat has defined the 2020s sneaker culture. Taking over the adidas Samba supremacy of the early 2020s, the low-profile racing silhouette has been the sneaker of the hour for a while now.

Introduced in 1999, the Speedcat was especially designed for Formula 1 (featuring a fireproof lining), and the following year, Puma released it as a lifestyle shoe. It’s almost three decades later, and the shoe is more popular than ever. Since its re-release in 2024, the Speedcat has been ranked third in Lyst’s “Hottest Products”, it’s gotten 10 collaborations as well as new takes of the shoe like the Speedcat ballet iteration, the Speedcat mule and the Speedcat wedge.
The Speedcat is having a remarkable run, but we’re always on the hunt for new silhouettes that we can add to the rotation.

The Nike Moon made its debut in the Olympics – it was first introed in the 1972 Olympic Marathon trials, especially designed for athletes to achieve a better grip. And it has been everywhere this year, ever since its re-release fronted by Solange (for that Jacquemus collab back in February). It’s a comfortable and easy-going design, perfect to just slip on and go about your day.

A new release from Pharrell Williams and adidas, the Vario Flat Earther in this faux suede iteration is basically a slipper turned into a shoe. Inspired by a yoga silhouette, the 2004 Yoga Vario, the shoe design explores themes of groundedness and balance. We assume that Pharrell has not suddenly decided to venture into conspiracy theories, he’s more likely nodding to how close these shoes are to the ground.

A more whimsical iteration of the Speedcat, the Puma Bella Mina is the new girl on the block. It features a similar shape to the Speedcat but takes on a more hyperfeminine approach. The double-lace with ribbon detail makes it more of a cute and girly statement shoe.

The Speedcat’s edgier sister, the Puma Mostro brings forward a slim, low-profile silhouette with a futuristic attitude with its spiked soles and asymmetrical Velcro straps. Smartly named Mostro (Italian for “monster”), the avant-garde design is for the girls that want a comfortable but equally bold shoe.
