When it comes to sneaker culture, few releases have been as legendary as the Nike Dunk High "Wu-Tang". First releasing in 1999 with only 36 pairs available, this classic sneaker is set to make a return this autumn. While the return of this much-loved "Wu-Tang" Dunk has a lot of sneakerheads excited, many have also raised concerns with the amount of 'grail' sneakers that we're seeing Nike announce retro releases for.
So far, in 2024, we've seen the Air Force 1 "Linen" make its return alongside the Air Jordan 4 "Military Blue" and just last week we even saw the Patta x Air Max 1 "Chlorophyll" make a return almost 15 years after they first released. While many new collectors are glad to see these OG grails getting a retro, those who spent their time and money finding the originals have taken to social media to vent their frustrations. For example, the last pair of "Wu-Tang" Dunks which were publicly listed in 2022 were up for $50,000!
If you don't have a spare $50k to drop, this new re-release is the perfect opportunity to get your hands on a pair of sneaker history. Originally released as a nod to the Wu-Tang Clan's debut album, "Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)," this sneaker has become one of the rarest and most coveted releases in sneaker history. The "Black" and "Goldenrod" colour combo mirrors the group's iconic imagery. Adding to its allure, the upcoming release will feature Wu-Tang Clan logos on the tongue and heel, just like the original '90s version. We also saw an on-foot look, thanks to YankeeKicks.
To celebrate the 25th anniversary, it looks like Nike is bringing back Dunk High "Wu-Tang" in all it's glory, including the same full leather construct and plush rubber midsole that we all loved in the original. The new edition promises to stay true to its roots, offering the same quality and design that fans loved back in 1999.
Last week we started seeing more news of this release making headlines, with select Wu-Tang Clan Spotify listeners being provided early access via Spotify Fans First and even a US-exclusive SNKRS drop. For anyone not lucky enough to have secured early access, you can now sign up for more updates via the Wu-Tang website using this link.
It looks like the release is coming up soon on Nike SNKRS and at some select retailers, with a starting price of £120. Click the bell icon to be notified as we hear more about this upcoming release and keep locked into The Sole Supplier for all the latest sneaker news!
