When you think of Under Armour, performance running shoes probably aren’t the first thing that comes to mind. The brand is best known for dominating other arenas, whether it’s Steph Curry lighting up the NBA, Patrick Mahomes redefining the NFL, or even The Rock powering through workouts in the gym. Under Armour has range, but track sports haven’t been its calling card, until now.
Enter the UA Halo Racer, a sleek, tech-packed silhouette that surprised us in the best way possible. After 50km of running, everyday wear, and even a few rain-soaked coffee trips through London, we put this unexpected trainer to the test. So how did it hold up? Keep reading to find out.

The first thing that stood out for us was the look. The Halo Racer genuinely turns heads. It’s a running shoe that could pass for a lifestyle sneaker. Under Armour’s design team clearly took cues from streetwear aesthetics, especially in standout colourways like the Torque pair, which is shaping up to be a strong pick for autumn rotations.
But looks can only go so far, what matters is performance. Luckily, the Halo Racer backs it up with a surprisingly capable ride. Under Armour’s new HOVR+ cushioning is the star here. It feels soft underfoot but comes alive the more you push it, delivering real energy return and responsiveness during longer efforts. For easy runs and mid-to-long distances, the cushion-to-snap ratio is dialled in just right.
Another standout feature is the Helix midsole, a cradle-like structure inspired by the UA logo that adds support without bulk. It works with a subtle TPU plate in the sole that helps guide your stride and keep transitions smooth. While it may not be our pick for a race-day weapon, the Halo Racer brings a rockered geometry that makes it easy to settle into a rhythm on daily road runs.
Traction was solid even in wet conditions, and the outsole’s placement of rubber in high-impact zones means durability should hold up well across higher mileage blocks. Even after a downpour dash to grab coffee, grip and comfort remained impressive, though maybe not worth sitting soaked through the rest of the workday.
Comfort-wise, the upper is airy and adaptive. The mesh provides solid ventilation, and the fit feels lightweight without being flimsy. That said, the sizing runs a little long. You’ll want to go at least a half size down, especially if you're using these for performance runs rather than casual wear or you may notice some discomfort.
After 50km of mixed testing, we’d rate the Under Armour Halo Racer a 7.5 out of 10. It’s not built for speedwork or elite racing, but that’s not its lane. What it is, is a comfortable, versatile, and stylish daily trainer that stands out for comfort, cushion, and surprisingly strong support. For runners after something fresh that blends function with fashion, this is one to watch.
