You wouldn’t call it an exaggeration when we say that the adidas Superstar is, in fact, a superstar. The adidas trainer, which was first introduced 56 years ago, has lived many lives. It originally launched as a basketball shoe, taking over the Converse Chuck Taylor, which back in 1969 was the shoe that dominated the basketball courts. It then went to live a life of its own: becoming a cultural icon in the hip-hop world with ‘80s rap group Run-DMC donning the Superstar, taking it from an NYC street trend to the global stage with their song “My Adidas”. The cult silhouette has immersed itself into different subcultures through the years, from skateboarding to rollerskating (yes, adidas came out with a roller version) and streetwear gods like BAPE and Neighborhood coming out with collabs.
In 2026, the adidas Superstar is entering yet another era, tapping into Kendall Jenner, JENNIE, Baby Keem, Olivia Dean, Lamine Yamal, and more, for a new campaign in which Samuel L Jackson is searching for his next “Superstar”. Kendall’s seen wearing a new croc iteration of the Superstar in the campaign, as well as a white pair in some alt shots, styled with a red three-stripe set.
We picked out two pairs from the new release and had a go at styling them with the viral adidas polka dot tracksuit.
A Superstar with studs on it? She’s an icon, she’s a legend, she is the moment. This pair is so Tumblr-era coded, we had to make her the star. Here, we’ve opted to follow the shoes’ black-and-white colourway, pairing it with the off-white polka dot track pant by adidas plus a white long-sleeve layered with a black vest on top, styled with a black leather bag and chunky Airpod Maxes. By reversing the black-heavy palette of the shoe with a predominantly white palette with the clothing, the Superstar is the main character.
For the metallic silver/black colourway, we wanted to let the sneaker speak for itself. Sometimes, it’s better to let the shoe breathe and do its own thing, rather than match its vibe. Once again, we’re sticking with a mainly black-and-white palette. This time round though, we’ve got the polka dots on top. We’ve styled the polka dot track jacket with a leather-effect pant, a staple black leather shoulder bag and a lace scrunchie. Just because it’s a bolder shoe, doesn’t mean you have to keep it black-and-white. The taupe sunglasses really bring the fit together.
Honestly, the new Superstar releases are a staple for the rotation. And words of advice: we recommend half a size up.
