The Air Jordan 1 Low stepped into the limelight the same year as the instantly recognisable high-top. 1985 was a big year for Nike and the Jordan brand, and nearly 40 years later, the silhouettes remain as huge as ever. Having seen every possible design under the sun, the Air Jordan 1 High has long been a staple in many rotations across the world, but this year, it’s the Jordan 1 Low’s time to shine.
Maybe thanks to Travis Scott’s coveted “Reverse Mocha” pair, but maybe not, the Air Jordan 1 Low is having quite a summer. This year was the first time - since the switch from the OG model to the one now seen most often - that the low-top J had been remixed in a chunky fashion. The women’s-exclusive Air Jordan 1 Elevated, or LV8D, added a platform sole to the design, and the decision took social media by storm. Having released in a plethora of colourways, and with loads more on the way, this is just one reason why the Jordan 1 Low is killing it right now.
As well as this, summer colourings, such as the one seen below, are always going to be a winner. The Air Jordan 1 Low “Teal” takes excellent colour-blocking, and combines two simple tones to construct the winning formula for what makes a great sneaker. The embroidered ‘Wings’ insignia on the rear of the AJ1 appears in white, with Michael Jordan’s Jumpman logo dressing the top of the cushioned tongue in the titular green hue. The crisp hues and classic Jordan detailing make this a must-cop sneaker for not only summer, but the autumn and winter months too.
Finally, we couldn’t not include a readily available example of how the Air Jordan 1 Low OG has resurfaced spectacularly. Dropping in inclusive sizing, the Air Jordan 1 Low OG “Mystic Navy” provided sizes that suited everyone (more that can be said for Travis), and a unisex colour palette that is easy to style, regardless of whether you are dressing up or down.
