Michael Jordan’s memorabilia isn’t just part of sports history; it’s the MVP of collectible culture. We recently talked about how a player sample 1985 Air Jordan 1 “Chicago” signed by MJ is set to be auctioned for over $80,000. Another highlight of Sotheby’s upcoming Genesis auction is a historic pair of Air Jordan 8 Playoffs sneakers, famously worn during the 1993 NBA Finals.
Jordan rocked the Air Jordan 8 Playoffs during the first halves of Games 4 and 5. These kicks played their part in the Bulls' championship run. Game 4 was unforgettable, with Jordan dropping an incredible 55 points to carry the Bulls to a 111-105 win over the Phoenix Suns, putting them up 3-1 in the series.
Despite visible signs of wear and ageing, the scuffed soles and worn laces can’t hide the fact that these sneakers carry the swagger of Jordan’s unstoppable dominance on the NBA’s biggest stage.
The Air Jordan 8 is a legend on its own, known for its bold cross straps, standout design, and brilliant craftsmanship. However, what makes this pair extremely special is its connection to Jordan’s iconic Finals performance, making it a real piece of basketball history.
Collectors love these items not just for their looks, but for the stories they carry. Experts predict these sneakers will fetch a price so high, that they may break a few records, and maybe a few hearts too.
Sotheby’s “Genesis” collection opens for bidding on December 2nd, with Jordan’s game worn sneakers and other rare items on display at Sotheby’s New York City from 4th to 10th December. The timing couldn’t be better for the iconic auction house, as it’s gearing up to celebrate 40 years in business next year, just like Jordan Brand.
