Nike’s new Air Works programme kicks off this week, bringing together eight young designers from around the world to co-create their own Air Max sneaker.
Back in March, Nike announced its new programme that would give designers the opportunity to create their own 3D-printed Air Max in partnership with 3D-printed footwear company Zellerfeld.
Nike has finally announced the eight designers that will be participating in this design project as well as the Nike teams that they’ll be working with to bring their designs to life.

“Air Works is about celebrating the cultural impact of Air Max and inviting a core group of global creatives to imagine what its future could look like,” said VP and creative director of Nike Sportswear Andy Caine said. “It’s also a chance to deliver a deep dive in Air Max history, innovation and inspiration, and to unite outside perspectives with Nike-only tools, talent and capabilities to redefine what Air Max means to this generation.”
The designers that will be participating in the Air Works programme will be Diya Joukani (Mumbai) – you may have seen her videos on TikTok, Marc Su (Beijing), OMI (New York), Hatsuki Motoi (Tokyo), YAMS (Paris), Masyn (Los Angeles), Tasnim Chowdhury (London), and Jose Wong (Shanghai).
The Air Works designers will work with their Nike mentors and external collaborations on their designs, and will also be taken around Nike’s Air Manufacturing Innovation facility, the Nike Archives, its Sport Research Lab, as well as Blue Ribbon Studio and the Bowerman Footwear Lab.
This isn’t the first time that Nike has held design programmes like this. Its “Vote Forward” contest in 2017 gave a platform to designer Sean Wotherspoon to release his Nike collab – the Sean Wotherspoon x Nike Air Max 1/97 from 2018.
