It seems companies across the globe are doing everything they can to help essential workers during the Coronavirus pandemic, and Nike is stepping in once more. The Oregon-born brand previously donated over $15m to charities assisting during the crisis and now, Nike is crafting Personal Protective Equipment face masks.
Crafted from repurposed apparel and footwear materials, these exclusive face shields have been designed in collaboration with medical experts from Oregon Health & Science University to ensure they’re highly functional. Miko Enomoto, M.D., associate professor of anaesthesiology and perioperative medicine, OHSU School of Medicine, said: “Without proper facial protection, healthcare workers are at a higher risk of contracting the virus. A lack of adequate supplies could place substantial strain on the healthcare workforce in the months ahead.”
Nike has recruited the same team that work on Innovation and Air Manufacturing within the company to develop a nine-step process for the face masks – which are designed to cover the entire face. The masks are crafted from recycled, Nike-owned materials. Collar padding for shoes, cords made for clothing and Nike Air soles’ TPU work in perfect tandem to deliver a protective mask that will protect countless healthcare workers!
Also working hard to provide protective equipment is New Balance. Check out the masks they’re providing!
