As the warm weather closes in, there's nothing better than feeling refreshed, so why not take a deep dive under the sea to explore the world of Bikini Bottom and cop the Sandy Liang x SpongeBob x Vans Sk8-Hi 38 DX collaboration while you're there?
If you're still reading at this point, we have no doubts that you grew up watching Nickelodeon’s famed fictional sea sponge on TV. To ensure that your kick game is on point this summer, it's only natural that California skate imprint Vans would take the helm by releasing a SpongeBob-themed collection for a summer-ready look. Even more, they've also given NYC-based fashion designer Sandy Liang control over the capsule collection as she is recognised for approaching her work with inspiration taken from her childhood.
Working on Vans' much-loved high top shoe in a black colourway, the Sk8-Hi model, the Sandy Liang x SpongeBob x Vans Sk8-Hi 38 DX "Black" features abstract art that pulls influence from Liang's Chinese heritage, then fused with various SpongeBob motifs throughout including SpongeBob himself embroidered on the back heel.
As for the latter pair, the Sandy Liang x SpongeBob x Vans Sk8-Hi 38 DX "Green Blue", is a direct nod to one of SpongeBob's best pals, Sandy Cheeks, a Texas-born squirrel. The construction is crafted from premium leather throughout coated in pastel green and blue hues to mimic the air-filled glass tree dome Sandy lives in to survive underwater. This Sk8-Hi is then embellished with pink floral graphics across all panels, similar to the ones on the character's diving suit. Alongside Vans' signature branding such as the racing stripe across the sides and branded license plate at the rear, Sandy herself also makes an appearance on the heels to finalise the playful scheme.
So are you ready for this? The Sandy Liang x Spongebob x Vans Sk8-Hi 38 DX collab is scheduled for a release on the 4th of June via Vans and their select retailers globally. As Mr Krabs would say "time is money" so don't wait around, keep it locked in right here at The Sole Supplier if you don't want to miss out on these and other upcoming Vans releases. In related news, the Penn x Vans collaboration serves a trio of tennis-inspired sneakers.
