Futurecraft 4D has been transforming the sneaker industry since its inception in 2017. Named by TIME Magazine as one of the best inventions of that year, the unique 3D-printed technology has slowly but surely made its way to collections everywhere since. Now on the dawn of its fourth birthday, the Three Stripes has unveiled the adidas 4DFWD, and it takes running to the next dimension.
With a black Primeknit construction for a comfortable sock-like fit, you'll find that this pair bears a striking resemblance to the OG adidas Futurecraft 4D "Core Black". Cord eyelets make up the lacing system while an extended heel offers up the perfect slip on experience for those always on the go.
Of course, you can't talk about this adidas running shoe without mentioning the fully redesigned midsole. Boasting a brand new lattice structure, it's crafted from 39% bio-based materials for an environmentally-friendly approach. All this results in three times more forward motion compared to its predecessors, and peak braking force has now been reduced by 15%. On top of all of this, cushioning has been upped by 23% for extra comfort.
"4D technology provides us with the opportunity to design in a way that conventional foam midsoles do not allow." explained Sam Handy, Vice President Design at adidas Running. "We took inspiration from the first-generation 4D lattice midsole and set ourselves the challenge to take it to the next level, coding millions of potential lattice structures to see if we could specifically design to counter negative mechanical forces experienced during running. Working closely with Carbon, our product teams, and testers we identified one perfect lattice midsole that is designed to compress forwards under loading and counter mechanical forces whilst delivering a unique gliding sensation for our runners."
The adidas 4D FWD "Core Black" is set to drop on May 16th. The "Tokyo Collection" will follow soon after on July 1st with hopes that they will be worn by athletes in this summer's Tokyo Olympics. Let us know what you think of this new design, and while you're here, you might as well take a sneak peek at the next Sean Wotherspoon x adidas sneaker!
