For over 35 years, the Nike Air Max 90 has remained an icon in sneaker culture. From high profile collaborations to exclusive Quickstrike releases, Tinker Hatfield's legendary design continues to evolve with fresh, creative makeovers. One of its latest iterations is the newly unveiled ‘Black/Yellow’ colourway, a nod to Gotham’s Batman and the perfect follow on from the Air Max 180 "Joker" we saw release last year.
While Nike and DC Comics have yet to collaborate officially, the Dark Knight’s influence has subtly found its way into Beaverton’s archives. The unmistakable black and yellow palette has previously graced other Air Max models, and now it takes center stage in this latest AM90 release. Staying true to its predecessors, the design leans heavily on dark tones, with ripstop nylon replacing traditional fabrics across the upper and heel panels for added durability. Muted yellow accents featured on branding elements like the heel tag and the forefoot mini Swoosh evoke Batman’s classic late 1980s costume, adding a subtle yet striking pop of colour.
This bold, Dark Knight inspired look is further enhanced by the addition of rugged ripstop material, giving the shoe an edge that feels perfectly suited to Gotham’s gritty streets. The flashes of “Buff Gold” across branding details add a vibrant contrast, brightening the overall profile while reinforcing its comic book inspired aesthetic.
Landing in a year packed with exciting Air Max 90 releases, including the “Racing” editions, the "Batman" stands out as a must have for fans of the silhouette.
With 2025 marking the 35th anniversary of the Air Max 90, Nike is pulling out all the stops to honour this legendary sneaker. The Nike Air Max 90 “Batman” is set to release soon, priced at £160. Make sure you hit that bell icon for your best chance at snagging these for retail.
