Nike SB is set to launch one of the most surprising collaborations in footwear this year with its upcoming SB Dunk Low inspired by The Wizard of Oz. Official photos are out, and let’s just say these kicks are anything but subtle.
While most movie inspired trainers play it safe (we're looking at you, Jason Voorhees), Nike's big Swoosh has decided to write the whole script; and then some.
This latest release features a nylon upper with a graphic design inspired by an iconic scene from the 1939 classic. The artwork shows Dorothy, the Cowardly Lion, the Tin Man, and the Scarecrow making their way through a colourful poppy field.
Co branding details grace the tongues, with “No place like home” debossed on the back. The insoles showcase a film still of the Wicked Witch of the West commanding her flying monkey army, adding a touch of cinematic nostalgia. All of this is perfectly complemented by a coordinating midsole, tying the design together.
Like all SB Dunks, this pair features Nike’s signature Zoom Air technology, delivering superior comfort and a springy bounce.
And here's the special detail: similar to the Jarritos x Nike SB Dunks, Nike have introduced a tearaway upper on these kicks. Over time, the outer fabric fades away to show off a ‘Gym Red’ leather base underneath. This detail makes sure every pair is unique, so no two are the same.
The Wizard of Oz x Nike SB Dunk Low ‘Gym Red’ is hitting shelves on 23rd December. You can grab a pair for £120 at Nike, on the SNKRS app, and from select stockists worldwide. Expect resale prices to reach somewhere over the rainbow.
