In somewhat surprising circumstances, Thom Browne has officially won its trademark infringement legal battle against adidas. In case you're out of the loop, the two took to court just over one week ago after adidas claimed that Thom Browne had violated its 3-Stripe trademark.
adidas was seeking a total of $867,225 in damages along with an additional $7,000,000 in profits, bringing the total to below just $8 million USD, but it would appear the brand is not getting its way. Just three hours after both parties had delivered their closing statements on Thursday afternoon, an eight-person jury unanimously decided that the luxury brand had not, in fact, infringed on adidas' property and therefore, would not be rewarded any damages or profits.
adidas filed the lawsuit back in April of 2021 after Thom Browne extended its line further past the business attire and formal offerings it's known for into the sportswear space. As it stands, the case is now closed, but it will be interesting to see if adidas explores the opportunity for further legal action in the future.
