Though apparel remains at its core, Jun Takahashi’s UNDERCOVER has been a firm feature of the footwear scene for a number of years now, having collaborated with the likes of Converse, Clarks and Dr. Martens to name but a few. One of the Japanese brand’s most longstanding partnerships though, is with Nike - as the duo’s joint efforts date back over a decade. For their newest collaboration the pair look to build on the utilitarian design language that has graced their previous silhouettes, with three Air Force 1s that are set to drop very soon.
The new UNDERCOVER x Nike AF1s arrive in three colourways - “White”, “Black” and “Grey Fog.” Originally previewed as part of UNDERCOVER’s SS22 collection, the trio manages to take inspiration from Bruce Kilgore’s classic basketball model, whilst adding a utilitarian take by combining it with details from ACG’s Air Riverderchi. The result sees the model arrive packed with functional features, with GORE-TEX collars, TPU guards and built-in straps each adding a practical touch to the shoe.
Of course, every collab calls for co-branded touches, and here these arrive in the form of rubber tongue tabs and UNDERCOVER’s signature “Balance” and “Chaos” call-outs that this time grace the lace dubraes. GORE-TEX branding also appears on the forefoot, serving as a reminder that these shoes were made to be worn, especially as the winter weather draws ever closer.
All three colourways of the UNDERCOVER x Nike Air Force 1 Low are set to drop on October 8th via UNDERCOVER, with a wider release due to take place shortly after. In the meantime, be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for all the latest sneaker news, and check out this unreleased fragment design x Travis Scott x AJ1 Low colourway.
