JJJJound x adidas Samba Tobacco

JJJJound and adidas throw a premium suede on the Samba for this "Tobacco" edition, giving the terrace icon an off-court edge. Paying homage to the Tobacco silhouette, Montreal-based studio has gone against its usual leather tooling in favour for this monotone make-up. The Samba has had a huge run with top-tier brands such as Sporty & Rich and Wales Bonner all having their take on a piece of adidas heritage. Naturally, sneakerheads will want to compare how the JJJJound pair stacks up against the competition, but with the brand paving its own lane, it’s only right to compare it to its other works.

Forming one part of this potential double-release Samba pack is the brown edition. Similar to the recent releases from the adidas Originals line, this shoe switches things up with a heavy nappy suede, with an extra premium JJJJound touch. The mudguard and heel tab follow suit, taking cuts from fine brown suede to add contrast to the predominantly beige upper. Not only will the gum sole leave sneakerheads happy, but it also avoids overcomplicating colourways, not that the people at JJJJound would ever do such a thing. The nylon tongue pays homage to the textured tongue seen on vintage releases, using ridges that were originally designed to lean into the footballing roots of the silhouette. Fans of the previous JJJJound New Balance collaborations will be more familiar with this edition rather than the leather pair, although both are wonderfully executed.
