The adidas SPZL A Aspden "Sail Blue" is more than just a shoe — it’s a heartfelt tribute wrapped in the form of a shoe. Conceived by Gary Aspden, the starting point was a 70s leisure silhouette: the adidas Las Palmas. From that clean canvas, Aspden and his team added thoughtful details that celebrate both archival court aesthetics and personal legacy.

Built on the adidas Las Palmas, a shoe that used the adidas Hawaii tooling and released as part of the brand’s Leisure series tooling, the shoe stays true to its simple roots but introduces subtle upgrades. Perforated 3-Stripes bring a touch of classic adidas DNA, while the tongue gets a unique twist with a nylon insert framed in leather. The chalk-white outsole contrasts softly with the smooth leather upper in Sail Blue, and a reworked heel overlay adds refinement.

But the most personal detail? The handwritten signature of Gary’s late father, Allan Aspden, a master engraver whose studied penmanship now graces the lateral side of the shoe. It’s a subtle but meaningful tribute to craftsmanship, family, and heritage.
