As expected, Nike continues to roll out its new Air Max 1 ’86 silhouette with this rumoured “Smokey Mauve” colourway. Having spent a number of years recreating the OG tooling from the first ever Air Max 1, it only makes sense for the Swoosh to explore using the new version to recoup on its investment made on research and production. It was only a matter of time before Nike would confirm this idea, with the sneakerhead communities debating on whether or not the brand would issue new colourways, however the answer arrived sooner than expected.
The first colourway to confirm this idea is this “Smokey Mauve” iteration, bringing with it a heavy Shima Shima AM1 vibe. Similar to the first “Big Bubble" pair, the midsole is based in white, with the upper also constructed from a similar mesh and nylon underlay. A dark brown synthetic suede forms the mudguard, contrasted by a lighter shade of mauve on the forefoot panelling and heel. The shoe’s sizing is still printed on the inside lining to mimic retro detailing, along with the ankle collar nylon which is a close recreation to the material found on the original ’86 editions.
These were given away during an Air Max Day event hosted by Black Market Flea, Kids of Immigrants charity and Nike, with all 4 colourways being limited to 1,986 pairs. While there is no current news on a public release, make sure to tune back into The Sole Supplier where we can keep you up to date with official photos and a release date for the Nike Air Max 1 ’86 “Smokey Mauve”!
