American artist Josué Thomas and his Los Angeles-based GALLERY DEPT. clothing brand headlines another Vans collaboration, this time featuring the Y2K skate icon, the Vans Rowley XLT. The capsule includes five variations of the robust skate shoe in vibrant colour palettes that resonate with the late ‘90s and early ‘00s skateboarding zeitgeist. This GALLERY DEPT. x Vans Rowley XLT LX “Grey” harkens back to the silhouette’s heyday as one of the most iconic skate shoes in the market.

Vans introduced the Rowley XLT in 2001 as a signature skate shoe of 2000 Thrasher Magazine Skater of the Year Geoff Rowley, who also had an input on the silhouette’s performance aspect. Having recently dropped as part of the Vans Reanimation Series in collaboration with Canadian skateboard brand Dime, the Vans Rowley XLT is back with another joint venture, this time with Josué Thomas’ GALLERY DEPT. fashion label. This colourway has a throwback makeover, clad in blue suede panels encompassing the vamp, quarter panels, tongue, and heel tab. Grey leather overlays dominate most of the upper, accentuated with red Vans Sidestripes as a signature detail. Co-branded GALLERY DEPT. and Rowley branding adorns the yellow tag on the tongue, while a subtly embossed XLT label decorates the rear. Additional co-branding appears on the sockliner as a proper sign-off. The white EVA foam midsole delivers ample cushioning and impact protection for skate sessions. Vans’ renowned gum waffle sole wraps up this modernised skate icon.
