Originally launched to pay respects to the heritage and history of the 3-Stripes brand back in 2014, Gary Aspden’s SPZL line has since cemented itself within the adidas family. As adidas SPZL looks to celebrate its 10th birthday, the latest collection pays homage to adidas’ deep design roots and further looks to reinterpret the classic silhouettes and archival references that continue to inspire Aspden.
Joining Roy Keane and Stephen Graham, Top Boy’s Ahley Walters acts as the face of this latest campaign to showcase the seven unique silhouettes which will be kicking off the Spezial 2024 lineup.
Kicking things off, we have our first official look at the adidas SPZL Handball Pro. A new silhouette, the Handball Pro references the upper of an archive adidas handball silhouette, which has been reworked and sat atop a modern rubber gum cupsole. Seen in a classic blue colourway, we’re excited to get our hands on this pair for summer.
Next up, the Gazelle SPZL returns after a successful release in Fall Winter 23. Being released in two colourways - “Core Black” and “Chalk White” - both iterations are equally wearable and bound to be fan favourites. The “Core Black” features a suede upper which makes reference to the Peter Saville Pulsebeat SPZL from 2022, whilst the “Chalk White” opts for a more hardy denim upper.
Another new silhouette for the SPZL range, the Whitworth SPZL arrives on the scene with a design inspired by various 80s runners. Alongside this, one more new silhouette is brought to the forefront, the Moston Super SPZL. Digging a little further into the archive once again, the Moston Super celebrates the 70s silhouette of the adidas Arctic. With an almost military inspired colourway of olive hues decorating the premium suede upper, we’re looking forward to checking these out in person.
One of our favourite releases to be seen in this Pre-Spring collection is a cult classic. The asymmetric Wensley SPZL makes a return for the first time in 5 years and looks as good as ever. A hairy suede overlay compliments the smooth leather upper, both of which sit atop a classic gum sole. The final shoe in the lineup is an adilette SPZL, arriving just in time to make its way into our holiday rotation.
Aside from trainers, the apparel in this collection is also incredible. After initial success, the Todmorden Smock makes a return and is bound to be an instant sellout. Accompanying the collection is also a commemorative 10th anniversary Mod Trefoil tee which highlights our feelings about this collection perfectly, “In Spezial We Trust”.
If you want to get your hands on any of these pairs, they will all be released via adidas CONFIRMED and select retailers on April 4th. Raffles are already starting to go live so make sure you head over to our product pages and use our raffle guides for your best chance to cop.
