Whirlwind romances are one thing, but whirlwind partnerships are another. Having developed quite the bromance over the past year or so, it's looking like Demna and Ye could be done for good, as Balenciaga has removed all traces of its partnership with Yeezy from its stores and website.
It was only a few weeks ago that Ye opened Balenciaga’s “The Mud Show,” but his behaviour ever since has landed him in hot water. After the hate slogan printed ‘White Lives Matter’ tees and anti-Semitic remarks, Ye was quickly banned from multiple social media platforms, and now even his long-term partnership with adidas is under review.
Over the past few weeks, multiple supporters have cut ties with Ye. Fans also noticed that images of the rapper had been removed from Balenciaga’s Vogue Runway coverage, and that the entire Yeezy GAP Engineered by Balenciaga collection had been removed from the fashion house’s stores and website, as well as all retailers globally.
Now, parent company Kering has offered an official statement on the matter. Keeping things simple, it reads: "Balenciaga no longer has any relationship nor plans for future projects related to this artist."
As with all Kanye-related news, the story is still developing, so be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for more information as it comes in.
Up next, KAWS has joined forces with The North Face for the partnership's second instalment.
