It seems karma has finally caught up with the owners of the fake "Supreme" Italia stores, as the perpetrators have now been sentenced to jail time and a $10.4 million fine.
Circuit Judge Martin Beddoe found father and son duo Michele (53) and Marcello (24) Di Pierro guilty with two counts of fraud following a jury trial. Despite being in settlement talks prior to the trial, Michele and Marcello could not reach a deal with VF Corportation leaving the dispute unresolved.
The duo will be forced to pay $10.4 million in damages as well as serving hefty 3 and 8 year stints in prison. The sentence comes after the two wrongfully amassed plagerised "Supreme" trademarks in Singapore, Spain and Italy while also opening stores in China and Europe to sell the counterfeit goods.
Following the sentence, Judge Martin Beddoe added that he thought that the duo had “hijacked every facet of Supreme’s identity and plagiarized it”. Needless to say, Mr Di Pierro wasn't pleased with the situation calling the whole thing "a very grave and unjustified assault".
While we can only feel for those involved, they say don't do the crime if you can't do the time. In similar news, Kanye West is suing Walmart over fake Foam RNNR sneakers.
