Things keep getting worse for Kanye West. After both his adidas and GAP deals came to an end last year, the artist is now being sued by the latter company for its failed collaboration.
According to the New York Post, GAP has asked for $2 Million after Ye “made unapproved changes to a rental property the landlord, Art City, is trying to collect on.” The company that owns the property has said that the damages include the erection of a ramp in the parking lot, the build of a new wall, and the removal of ceiling lights and three bathrooms - all of which hadn’t been given prior approval. The suit was originally directed towards the clothing company, which has pushed the responsibility onto Ye.
The suit claims that “by making and not repairing or restoring the foregoing alterations of the premises that made without GAP’s participation or approval, breached the strategic agreement and directly and proximately caused GAP to incur expenses to repair and restore the premises.”
GAP is now set to sue the artist for the $2 million sum, as well as asking that he is responsible for any damages owed to Art City itself.
Ye’s GAP partnership ended last year due to the artist’s antisemitic outbursts, but in true Kanye fashion, rumours that the artist was near-impossible to work alongside went way back. Ye had originally claimed that the partnership had failed for other reasons, stating “A king can’t live in someone else’s castle. A king has to make his own castle.”
Though the partnerships are now well and truly over, adidas is currently gearing up to drop the final round of Yeezys. Due to an existing deal, Ye is entitled to receive 15% of the profits, so $2 million is basically pocket money at this point.
