It seems that adidas’ Yeezy woes aren’t over yet, as the latest developments within the saga suggest that the 3-Stripes is set to be sued over the partnership’s demise. According to reports, investors are planning to sue based on the fact that adidas was aware of Ye’s behavioural issues, but failed to take earlier action, and therefore did not work to limit its financial losses.
Ye and adidas’ partnership finally ended in October last year, though there were rumours of tensions running high for much longer. Ultimately, the deal was terminated due to Ye’s antisemitic comments. Still, the most recent lawsuit cites alleges that senior executives knew that the partnership could be a risk from as long ago as 2018 - when Ye made his infamous ‘Slavery is a choice’ comments. The lawsuit also alleges that Ye made antisemitic comments in front of adidas staff.
Further outlining the issues, the lawsuit continues:
“adidas was aware of his behaviour, and failed to warn investors that it was aware of that behaviour, and had considered ending the partnership as a result of it,” the suit claimed. “adidas failed to take meaningful precautionary measures to limit the financial exposure of the partnership were to end as a result of West’s behaviour.”
adidas are still yet to respond to the claims, so be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for all the latest on this story as it comes in.
