The adidas City Series usually feels like a European stag do. You’ve got the Dublin, the Malmö, the London; all heavy hitters, all classic, and all very, very Northern Hemisphere. But the latest entry has skipped the Eurostar and flown 10,000 miles to give the collection a much needed shot of adrenaline.

If you haven't looked at Australia lately, you’re missing the most consistent heater streak in footwear. While everyone else chases the same three silhouettes, the Aussies are digging through crates and coming up with gold. Leading that charge is Up There. For their first Consortium project, the Melbourne based retailer performed a forensic archeological dig in the adidas archives in Herzogenaurach.
Most "heritage" shoes just slap a vintage filter on a modern shape. Not this one. This silhouette takes its DNA directly from a 1956 Olympic track spike. Look at that midfoot "biscuit" and the rough cut suede collar; those details come from a literal relic found in the German vaults.
The mesh upper isn't just for breathability, either. It’s a nod to the legendary Rod Laver. If you’ve ever watched the Australian Open, you know his statue sits outside his namesake arena. This shoe puts that history on your feet instead of a pedestal.
The attention to detail here borders on the obsessive. We’re talking about a foam tongue refined over multiple samples to match an Australian made adidas Rome from the '70s. It’s the kind of obsession usually reserved for those ultra expensive "Made in Germany" releases, but at a fraction of the cost.
The sneaker world is currently obsessed with "terrace" culture, but most of it feels like a copy of a copy. This collaboration feels authentic because it actually respects the source material. It’s witty, it’s researched, and it finally puts Melbourne on the map alongside the European greats.
The adidas x Up There Melbourne drops in the UK on 17th February for £110. You can find them on the adidas webstore and at select retailers. Hit that 'Notify me' button on the product page unless you fancy paying extra in the resellers market.
