How much would you pay for a game-worn pair of Js? Most people would probably accept the fact that you’d have to pay a pretty penny to have this amount of sneaker history in your collection, but it's been revealed that MJ’s 1998 NBA final “Last Dance” AJ13s have just sold for $2.2 million over at Sotheby’s. Already an iconic pair in themselves, and no doubt spurred on by the hype around the movie “AIR”, the price has set a new record, as the highest price publicly recorded for a pair of sneakers. The particular pair was the final pair of Air Jordan 13 Breds that Jordan would wear in an NBA game. After the game, the sneakers were signed and given to a ball boy who would look after the Bulls on their visits.
Speaking on the sale, Sotheby’s Head of Streetwear and Modern Collectibles Brahm Wachter said “Today’s record-breaking result further proves that the demand for Michael Jordan sports memorabilia continues to outperform and transcend all expectations. Sotheby’s is extremely proud to hold the world record for most valuable game-worn sports memorabilia at auction and the most valuable sneakers ever sold, both of which — to no surprise — are directly tied to the global icon, Michael Jordan.”
In related news, the Air Jordan 1 Chicago “Lost & Found” may be getting a restock.
