The latest Nike Air Max 95s were inspired by two convenience store chains: Japan’s Lawson and the USA’s 7-Eleven. The drop is titled “convini,” presumably a portmanteau of the American “convenient store” and the Japanese name for the corner shop, “conbini.”
The shoes are a fun homage to an oft-overlooked yet integral aspect of countries’ culture, beyond tourism and the polished exterior they present to the outside world. A place of everyday interaction and exchange, a reliable city landmark that can be spotted every few blocks. The campaign imagery lenses the sneakers photographed in convenience store baskets, alongside classic convenience store wares, like mouthwash, highlighters, and cleaning products.
The 7-Eleven colourway sports the store’s instantly recognizable colour scheme, with red, orange, and green stripes appearing above the Max Air-cushioned bubble midsole, and white and green utility-style laces. The Lawson-inspired pair comes in cobalt blue, with a net upper and blue lower with red piping, with blue and white utility-style laces. Both shoes are rendered in a suede-effect material.
Cop the “Convini” Air Max 95 pack on July 11 at retailers including Sevenstore.
