After being absent from the shelves the past decade, New Balance's famed 2002 running silhouette, now dubbed as the 2002R, resurfaced last year in more fashion-conscious materials hand in hand with New Balance's in-house cushioning technology that was also present in the OG release. Following the high-profile collaborations it hosted in 2020 with the likes of Salehe Bembury, thisisneverthat, and many more, the Boston sportswear giant has now taken things up a notch by teaming up for the first time in the history of sneakers with Japan's renowned streetwear essential A Bathing Ape to deliver the BAPE x New Balance 2002R.
After taking a closer look at the teaser imagery provided by the power duo, it appears that two colourways are underway, the "Green Camo" and "Grey Camo". The helm of the collaboration receives a traditional green camouflage treatment whereas the latter sees a tonal grey ensemble.
Both housing New Balance's ever-present insanely comfortable ABZORB and N-ergy cushioning technology from the underside, BAPE's instantly-recognisable graphics dress the silhouette's combined supple suede, tumbled leather and synthetic textile constructed upper. Notably speaking of the shark teeth motif on the heel, ABC camo graphics, and the iconic shooting star logo. Overall, these are an absolute no-brainer of a cop for both avid New Balance and BAPE collectors out there.
Pretty much nothing else is known about the BAPE x New Balance 2002R at this moment in time. However, the co-branded trainers will no doubt be met with a significant level of hype from sneakerheads, so if you’re looking to cop, make sure you’re clued up by staying locked in right here at The Sole Supplier for more news as it develops. In related news, the new BAPE x adidas Superstar surfaces with mismatched logos!
