Updated 19th July, 2025: Remember earlier this year we talked about the Nike Air Max Plus VII making a comeback? Well, Nike just dropped the official photos, confirming the Air Max Plus VII is indeed returning in three colourways, including that iconic 'Varsity Maize' shade we all adore.
Nike's expanding the range, bringing out two new versions of this classic 2005 trainer. You've got one that keeps things simple with a white base, and then there's a truly striking one with a colour shift. Both of these models give the original shape a fresh look, but they definitely don't forget their roots in performance.
First up, the white pair. It features a clean mesh across the top. You'll notice black dots scattered over it, which really make it look like raindrops are falling. This subtle touch gives the design some depth and makes it feel like it's moving, giving the original trainer a contemporary update. They've put thick white laces on these, and the heel uses a matte-finish leather, which carries the famous TN Air logo. This all reminds you that the shoe still delivers on energy return and clever engineering.
Then, we have the gradient edition, and this one really grabs your eye. The colours shift beautifully, starting with a deep blood orange at the front, moving into a bright shocking pink, and then finishing with a rich varsity purple towards the back. A bright neon yellow Swoosh, outlined in black, makes the colours even more intense. Look down, and you'll see the visible Air units match the top of the shoe, with splashes of yellow, orange, and pink. It all comes together to create a memorable look.
Just as we anticipated, the design of the 'Varsity Maize' features a vibrant yellow foundation, complemented by those distinctive, fluid like spots across the upper. These markings transition from a 'Metallic Silver' hue to a deep black as they reach the heel. Looking at the Air cushioned sole, you'll find a crisp white midsole, showcasing those bright yellow Air units. A black, subtly translucent outsole provides the foundation beneath.
We anticipate the 'Varsity Maize' Air Max Plus VII will be arriving on shop floors this autumn, likely around the 23rd of September, with a retail price of £175.00. To maximise your chances of securing a pair at retail price, make sure you hit that 'Notify me' button.
Original story: Celebrating two decades of style and innovation, Nike is bringing back the iconic Nike Air Max Plus VII. Originally released in 2005 as part of the Tuned Air series, this silhouette quickly became a cult favourite. In Fall 2025, the much-loved “Varsity Maize” colourway is making a highly anticipated comeback.
The “Varsity Maize” edition features a striking yellow mesh upper, exuding energy and boldness. Black accents cascade through the design in a gradient dotted pattern, staying true to the original aesthetic. Wavy TPU overlays enhance both the shoe’s structure and visual appeal, while the mini white Swoosh pops against the vibrant backdrop, adding a clean, crisp contrast.
Performance shines with the return of the Tuned Air cushioning system, renowned for its superior comfort and support. A black midsole is complemented by yellow tinted Air units. The black and white outsole not only ensures durability but also provides a brilliant finish to this classic sneaker.
Nike hasn’t confirmed any new colourways yet, but fans can expect a mix of fresh designs and retro looks. The Nike Air Max Plus VII “Varsity Maize” is set to drop in Fall 2025. You’ll be able to snag a pair at select Nike stores or online at Nike.com.
