Steve Jobs was known for being a big New Balance fan, but did you know that Apple once made their own kicks? Originally designed for the company’s employees, a super-rare pair of Omega Sports Apple Computer sneakers are currently up for sale at Sotheby’s - though they come with a hefty price tag.
King of corporate merch, the tech giant actually has a lot of the vintage market in a chokehold. If you weren’t already aware, the brand actually branched out to launch a clothing line, ‘The Apple Collection’ back in 1986. Featuring a selection of branded sweatshirts and tees in relaxed fits, Apple’s merch was quintessentially 80s - a barrage of super-clean styled font and bright colours - and the epitome of normcore cool. Though discontinued just a year later, the Apple-branded clothing has a serious cult following behind it, and can often be found on streetwear resale sites like Grailed.
However, as sought-after as the clothing is, nothing compares to these sneakers. Custom-made for Apple employees and given away at a sales conference in the mid-90s, it's fair to say this style is in short supply. Crafted in a chunky yet classic 90s style (that’s not too dissimilar from Reebok’s line of Club Cs), the shoe bears near-pristine white leather uppers, perforated detailing and a window for the Apple logo to peek out from.
If you’re looking to up your merch game, then you better have a hefty amount of savings in the bank, as a US-sized 10.5 pair is currently available at Sotheby’s with an asking price of $50K.
Up next, this ASICS x KITH collab is inspired by trading cards.
