In the past few years the worlds of sport and high fashion have edged closer together. The old, “look good, play good”, saying has long been part of the performance world, with fashion houses also now starting to adopt this concept. Germany’s adidas is also privy to this future direction, delivering a balance of both heritage and performance on consistent basis. This has never been clearer than on this latest Adizero SL 72 Bad Bunny collaboration.
The Adizero SL 72 encapsulates this balance perfectly, merging its pinnacle ‘70s and ‘00s models into a seamless new silhouette. Blending the two eras of sport together has been made to look easy, however don’t be fooled as this is no easy feet (pardon the pun). Split by three decades worth of footwear design, the language of both the SL 72 and the Adizero are lightyears apart, yet the 3-Stripes DNA allows the two to fuse together for a new revolutionary design.
The technical features of the bottom half swallow up the classic lines of the SL 72, this blend made obvious by the two louder colourways. Bad Bunny’s co-sign is also a testament to this innovation, an artist who has lent his hand as a creative visionary in both the music and fashion industry on a number of different occasions. Previously updating other adidas icons such as the Gazelle and Campus, this will be the first time the superstar tries to Frankenstein two entirely separate shoes together.
The collaboration is made evident with a simple “PARA BAD BUNNY” written between the 3-Stripes logo across the sidewall. On the rear portion, the Trefoil logo remains proudly on the ankle collar, while the Badge of Sport from the 2000s rests neatly below, another visible symbol of adidas’ transformation through the decades.
Included in the Bad Bunny “Shift the Timeline” collection are three colourways all of which shine a unique light on the hybrid silhouette. Between the “Blue Core White Shock Yellow”, “Off White Chalk White Wonder White” and “Maroon Chalk White Semi Solar Red” make-up, each is arguably as strong as the other (although we reckon the orange and brown pair may have just edged it for us).
It's worth adding that all pairs come in a special edition archival 3-Stripes box, along with a white tote bag included inside. A spare set of thin cotton laces can also be found attached, allowing you to swap out the sporty look of the white laces to more closely match the SL 72 upper.
Dropping on the 14th of December for £140, the Bad Bunny x adidas Adizero SL 72 collection is available for raffle via the adidas CONFIRMED app now!
