Known in the sneakerverse for its high-end Nike collaborations, Japanese fashion label COMME des GARÇONS is back at it once again, unveiling a duo of Air Max 97s at its recent AW22 fashion show. Offering up a refined take on the 1997 classic designed by Christian Tresser, these pairs will no doubt become must-haves for both sneaker and fashion fans alike, earning the same cult status as the CDG x Nike AM95 and the CDG x Nike Foamposites that released recently.
So far, two colourways of the upcoming Air Max 97 have been previewed, a blacked-out rendition and a clean white offering, in typical CDG stylings. As of yet it’s unclear what exactly the uppers are crafted from, although they display the clean lines of the original silhouette that was inspired by the speed of the Japanese bullet train.
They offer what looks to be a pre-distressed look for an avant-garde effect, with branding kept minimal in the form of mini Nike Swoosh logos. From this first look we can’t pick out any obvious CDG branding, although this could be likely to change as these are only sample pairs. Both iterations sit on top of the classic full-length Nike Air Max midsole unit.
