The Basement x New Balance 2002R Friends & Family Dark Slate

As the remainder of re-releases for The Basement x New Balances 2002Rs winds to a close, a final Friends & Family colourway surfaces. Having seen great success on the “Earth Brown”, “Moss Green” and “Stone Grey” editions, this limited “Dark Slate” F&F colourway tweaks its appearance with a different array of materials. This NB 2002R “Dark Slate” pair nods to the group’s previous collaboration on the Nike Air Max 90 “Manchester”, placing an emphasis on its stealthy palette and heavy reflective elements.

At first this may look like one of the samples from the capsule’s creative process, but on closer inspection it’s clear that it’s anything but. The Basement opts for a dark reflective mesh on the toe box and ankle collar, replacing the buttery suede that existed on the earlier colourways. On the lateral side, a grey “N” logo is found corner stitched on with a smooth finish, overlaying 3M accents on the striped motif. Co-branding is here just as it was before, a BSMT oval logo on the tongue and a small debossed “B” sat on the bottom lace panel. 3M panelling has been used for the web overlays, giving the shoe a pop that cannot go ignored during the darker hours of the day.
