Since its rebirth that started with a collaborative effort from Teddy Santis’ Aimé Leon Dore, the Bostonian footwear brand has really hit a swish after swish with its NB 550 line. Designed by a once lesser-known Steven Smith, these Basketball shoes saw a mere whimper of success during its first release back in the 80s. Fortunately, the story couldn’t be more different this time, with the New Balance 550 maintaining its position as the hottest retro for the last two years.
This New Balance 550 delves into a more feminine version of the basketball shoe with hits of pink in all the right places. For the most part, white constructs the majority of the shoe’s upper, allowing the pink to highlight the most interesting elements and details. All the branding has been laden with pink as well as the heel support ridge and tongue piping. The perforated sidewalls make a return as with other releases, a detail which wonderfully balances the dual stitching elements on the panels. The story is much of the same down below with the midsole walking a fine line between the two opposing colours.
While it’s easy to go overboard with pink colourways, this rendition of the New Balance 550 keeps it classy with yet another solid release. For more information regarding this drop, keep it locked in with us over at The Sole Supplier.
