New Balance 550 Slate Grey Suede

If it wasn’t for Teddy Santis of Aimé Leon Dore, and now the brand’s creative director for its Made in USA line since April of 2021, the New Balance 550 may have been relegated to the archives forever. First introduced in 1989, this shoe disappeared from shelves but was revived by Santis, a lover of ‘90s-inspired style, and reintroduced with great success in 2020. Meet one of the latest neutral renditions of the silhouette, the New Balance 550 “Slate Grey Suede”.

This NB 550 has a breathable grey mesh base peeking out of the toe box and the collars. The rest of the shoe is covered with hairy grey suede. The marshmallow-like convex “N” logos on both the medial and side walls are also grey with white outlines. The NB logos on the white tongue labels and the insoles are light grey. A pristine white midsole and a vintage-looking cream rubber outsole wrap up the design of this sneaker.
