While New Balance’s classic models, like the 99X and 990X series, remain at the forefront of its lifestyle catalogue, the brand further pushes the boundaries of sneaker design with all-new models inspired by archival silhouettes. Joining modern retro styles like the NB 327 and 9060, the New Balance XC-72 gives its ‘70s design concept a futuristic treatment. This “Triple Black” rendition envelops the shoe from top to bottom, highlighting the enlarged N logo on the sides.
The New Balance XC-72 takes its sleek upper and square-toe shape from ‘70s concept cars and several NB running shoes from the archives. This rendition flaunts an all-black makeover constructed in a lightweight mesh base with suede overlays encompassing the toe, eyestay, and heel. The oversized leather N logo on the sides adds a modern retro touch to the silhouette. Inspired by the NB 620’s traction, the rubber heel counter boasts wavy herringbone patterns for additional aesthetics. Meanwhile, the outsole combines three distinct traction patterns from the NB 375 and XC15, vertically split in the centre.
