New Balance introduces more styles of its retro-futuristic lifestyle shoe, the NB XC-72, to expand the brand’s growing roster. This silhouette debuted in 2021 to maintain the momentum of New Balance’s next-gen retro models, headlined by the NB 327 and 237, which borrow design elements from archival New Balance kicks. The New Balance XC-72 “White Black” arrives in a classic makeover with a contrasting white and black combination, boasting a versatile design thanks to its ‘70s concept car aesthetics.

This rendition boasts a clean white mesh base reinforced with grey suede overlays on the toe, eyestay, and heel. The leather N logos on the sides juxtapose the light-based upper, boasting a contrasting black shade that stands out. Classic N logos on the nylon tongue complement the exposed foam on the edges to give the shoe a vintage approach. Wavy herringbone patterns on the heel counter take inspiration from the NB 620’s outsole for additional detail. The gum rubber sole features three traction patterns borrowed from the XC15’s ‘gripper’ and NB 375 to deliver a chunky, offset aesthetic.
