Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship University Red

Streetwear brand Awake NY finally opened its first flagship store since its inception in 2012. Following the grand opening, brand founder Angelo Baque welcomed a new era in streetwear with a surprise collaboration. Showing up during the opening day, the Awake NY x Jordan Air Ship “University Red” was displayed hanging on the store ceiling as fans who visited caught a glimpse of the shoe.

The Jordan Air Ship receives more fanfare following various collaborations with the likes of A Ma Maniére and Nigel Sylvester’s Bike Air PE. Jordan Brand first acknowledged the existence of the then-mysterious Nike Air Ship with a tweet. However, it took six years before the shoe finally debuted in 2020. Michael Jordan wore the Nike Air Ship before the Air Jordan 1 launched. This silhouette is also the true “banned” shoe due to the lack of white on the upper. Nike capitalised on this and marketed the Air Jordan 1 High “Bred” as the banned sneaker, earning the shoe more fame.

This debut collaboration between Awake NY and Jordan Brand features a mismatched Jordan Air Ship. The shoe features a white leather upper with “A” branding on the lateral forefoot. Silver Swooshes come with red outlines on the right pair and blue on the left. The collar has a faux snakeskin texture and appears in mismatched tones of blue on the left pair and red on the right. Jordan Wings logo comprises the lateral collar, referencing the Air Jordan 1. A metallic silver Jumpman hangtag adds more premium details to this unique silhouette. Sail white tones on the rubber cupsole bring vintage aesthetics to cap off this colourway.
