Following in the footsteps of Nike and New Balance, adidas are set to release protective face masks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Crafted for medical professionals in collaboration with Carbon, these masks will be crafted using 3D printing technology and be offered to patients and workers during this time.
The adidas-designed new personal protective equipment boasts a translucent guard that’s made to cover the entire face. The mask is secured using green 3D-printed lattice moulds which have been transformed into adjustable straps – this material is the same resin/water solution that features on the adidas Futurecraft 4D runners, so the durability and flexibility of the material has definitely been tested!
As of right now, 18,000 of the adidas masks are being made on a weekly basis and they’re being crafted at Carbon’s manufacturing facility in California. The majority of the masks are being prioritised for frontline workers and medical staff.
With countless brands and companies across the globe stepping forward to help during the worldwide Coronavirus pandemic, adidas is just one in a line-up of big businesses doing what they can to help!
In other news, New Balance wants to make 100,000 PPE face masks a week! Check it out and keep it locked into The Sole Supplier for more news on what sportswear giants are doing to help during this time.
