Is The Air Jordan 1 The Most Iconic Sneaker Of All Time?

It's absolutely insane to think that the Air Jordan 1 has been around for over three decades. Ever since it was first announced back in 1985, Nike has been killing it with the AJ1 silhouette. Designed for Michael Jordan himself by Peter C. Moore, you have to admit, he did a pretty awesome job, with the shoe remaining more or less identical since it was first seen on court. Air Jordan 1 'Bred'

The legend was born way back in 1985 with the famed Air Jordan 1 'Bred'. Technically designed the year before, this colourway was later dubbed the 'Banned' as it was banned from the NBA for violating the league'’s uniform policy. So every time Michael Jordan wore the shoe on the court, he was fined $5000 per game. Was this just a marking move by Jordan Brand to sell more sneakers? We don't know for sure, but some sneakerheads believe that without this fiasco, the AJ1 wouldn't be the iconic shoe it is today.

Air Jordan 1 'Royal'

The Air Jordan 1 'Royal' was introduced to the world in the same year as the 'Bred', and since its debut, it has been re-released a total of four times, and to be honest, we're not even mad. Featuring an iconic blue, black, and white colourway, the 'Royal' is an absolute classic and we think every single sneakerhead should own a pair. The fact that these aren't as coveted as the 'Bred' is beyond any explanation.

Air Jordan 1 'Shattered Backboard'

Technically, the Air Jordan 1 'Shattered Backboard' wasn't introduced with this name, however, it was christened so when Michael Jordan was playing a game in Trieste, Italy in 1985 and he so forcefully dunked at the net that it completely shattered the glass on the backboard. A sneaker with an incredible backstory, this is the stuff of myth. You can probably tell by now that 1985 was an unbelievable year for Jordan Brand.

The fragment design x Air Jordan 1 is a classic release from Hiroshi Fujiwara's 2014 collaboration with Nike. Releasing in extremely limited quantities, the upper features an upgraded leather for an extremely premium feel, and a heel stamp is present around the back. Reselling for an average of £1500, we think these are worth every single penny.

Off-White x Air Jordan 1

Debuting in late 2017, the Off-White x Air Jordan 1 was crowned by the Footwear News Achievement Awards as the 'Shoe Of The Year', and has quickly became the holy grail for many sneakerheads. Part of the coveted "THE TEN"; collection, Virgil Abloh has taken the past and put it in the present, completely deconstructing the sneaker and changing the game of sneaker collaborations forever. We are beyond excited to see more colourways become available in 2018.
