Not many shoes are as iconic as the Air Force 1, and we suppose it was only right that Nike celebrate the silhouette’s 40th anniversary with a slew of special-edition releases to commemorate the pair. However, the Beaverton Brand are set to unveil a pair that celebrates the shoe's anniversary specifically, in the imaginatively named Air Force 1 Low “Anniversary Edition.”
The classic kicks were originally designed by Bruce Kilgore in 1982 and have since gone on to become a cultural staple. Transcending their beginnings as a basketball shoe, to becoming a symbol of the hip-hop scene, to becoming a must-have sneaker for just about anyone ever, the AF-1 is one of those sneakers you’d still recognise if you knew nothing about sneakers – so it was only right that Nike went all out for the shoe’s anniversary.
The “Anniversary Edition” AF1 Low stays pretty true to the shoe’s original white leather make-up, because why fix what isn’t broken? To differentiate from the run-of-the-mill (but still classic) Triple White pairs, the “Anniversary Edition” comes in a bright white and premium dark brown colour pallette, with the base dressed in the former and the details appearing in the latter.
This brown detailing appears in the form of mini Swooshes above the toe box, and of course the iconic side Swooshes that sweep across the shoe’s midfoot area. The contrasting brown also colours the Nike branding on the heel tab, and the tongue tab has been swapped for a special-edition version that reads “Anniversary Edition” in gold scripted text. The pair comes finished with white laces, a vintage-looking hangtag and even a mini toothbrush (we’d imagine this is for cleaning your kicks rather than your teeth).
Right now, there’s no release date for the “Anniversary Edition” Air Force 1 Low, but if this is a pair you need to add to your collection (AF-1 enthusiasts, this is a must-have!) be sure to keep it locked for all the latest info as it comes in!
Up next, patent panels dress this Air Force 1.
