New Balance is arguably one of the hottest brands around right now, and many of its hottest styles are pretty hard to get your hands on at times. And, if you’ve been trying to hunt down a pair of 550s, secure some 2002Rs or are looking to add a pair of 990s to your rotation, you might have noticed that they don’t exactly come cheap either - especially if you’re having to factor in resale prices. Luckily, if you’re shopping for a mini-me, or you're a UK size six or below, then we have a great little hack for you, as NB’s Grade School-sized section is full of scaled-down versions of fan faves.
Here are the pairs we’ll be adding to our lists right now. Scroll to see them, hit the links to cop and be sure to check out all the latest drops over at New Balance.
First up, we’re kicking things off with the GS version of this Teddy Santis 990v3 colourway. Where the full-sized versions fall under New Balance’s Made in USA line, they also come with a hefty price tag, so if you’re lucky enough to squeeze into the smaller styles, you can save over £100. Sure, there are obvious differences when it comes to the suede used in the build, but if Santis continues to put out colourways this strong, we’re going to need to find ways to afford them all somehow.
Next up, the 550 was easily one of the most sought-after shoes last year, and even though some colourways are sitting on the shelves a little longer these days, that doesn’t mean you sleep on adding a pair to your rotation. If you’re sized 6 or below, you can add the minimalist triple white colourway to your collection for just £70 - an absolute bargain when they were going for £200 at resale this time last year. Clean and low-key, this style is set to become just as timeless as Nike’s Air Force 1, so cop them before they go!
The 2002R has grown a loyal fanbase since it was reintroduced a couple of years ago, and for good reason. The chunky-looking shoe leans perfectly into the retro runner trend, and though the brand has swapped mesh and leather for synthetic fabric and a canvas base, it still comes packed with all the comfy tech you’d expect from New Balance - for a whole £40 less than the adult version.
There aren’t many sizes left in the GS-sized 990v6, so we’d advise getting your hands on a pair while you can. The latest addition to NB’s premium 99X series, the long-awaited style dropped late last year, proving that new versions of the model were just as buzzy as Santis’ 990v3 takes. Back when the 990 first dropped, the v1s three-figure price drop was then unheard of, but now the shoe retails for £220 - making the GS version more than half price.
Finally, New Balance 327s have really found their footing amongst NB’s signature lifestyle models, and now the Charlotte Lee-designed sneaker has been scaled down for smaller feet too. Coming in a couple of colourful variations (this one gives off STAUD collab vibes) you can cop the 70s style sneaker for a mere £65.
