If you’ve ever owned a pair of Reebok Beatniks, you’ll know that shoes don’t come much cosier than that. The clog/sandal hybrid is a staple of many sneakerheads' rotations - they’re perfect for wearing around the house, but they’re also comfy and cool enough to take outside, too. Having enjoyed a bit of a boom ever since lockdown, Reebok has been working on ways to develop the style in order to make it a more year-round staple, and that’s how the Beatnik Moc came to be.
It might surprise you that before lockdown turned it into a house shoe, the Beatnik Sandal already had roots in outdoor wear. The trail-ready model was originally introduced as part of Reebok’s 1994 Outdoor line, and featured a jagged, traction-heavy tread, oiled suede upper and comfy EVA cushioning. Its heritage means that this new boot version, the Beatnik Moc, isn’t exactly a stretch for the brand, although stylistically it's quite a departure from the sandal silhouette.
Capitalising on the current Gorpcore trend, the Reebok Beatnik Moc takes on the appearance of a hiking boot, whilst retaining the oiled suede uppers and ridged rubber sole of the original sandal. A neoprene collar ensures a snug fit, and intelligent overlays add reinforcement against the elements. Although most hiking boots feature laces, these pairs feature laceless uppers, which helps to keep them more in line with the minimalistic vibes of the Beatnik family. Set to drop in “Collegiate Gold”, “Modern Beige” and “Black”, each colourway makes a perfect match for a gorped-up fit, so be sure to hit the links if you're looking to cop!
