If you’ve been into streetwear for a while, chances are you’ve heard of PYREX VISION. Established way back in 2012, the brand was the brainchild of the late Virgil Abloh and one of his earliest forays into the world of fashion. Although the brand was pretty notorious for a number of reasons, it still left a massive imprint on the streetwear scene, and now it could be making a comeback, thanks to Denim Tears founder and Creative Director of Supreme, Tremaine Emory.

Before Off-White catapulted Abloh to international stardom, PYREX VISION was an early art project of Abloh’s, and one that he never intended to be a commercial success. Consisting of reworked and thrifted Champion tees and Ralph Lauren shirts, PYREX VISION’s signature design details came in the form of bold PYREX lettering, the number 23 (as an ode to Michael Jordan), and the occasional renaissance artwork screen-print. One of the brand’s most iconic pieces was a hoodie that depicted Caravaggio’s ‘The Entombment of Christ’, which Emory pays homage to in the Denim Tears collaboration.
Amongst many other things, Abloh was known for his willingness to champion new artists and spotlight new talent – Emory being one of the many. Taking this into account, the artwork that Emory has picked for the collaboration is not by Caravaggio himself, but by an important early follower, named Cecco del Caravaggio. The painting itself ‘The Resurrection’ is not only appropriately themed, but it also resides permanently in the Art Institute of Chicago’s collection. As for the rest of the design, the number 23 has been replaced with the number 45 in a nod to Jordan’s return to basketball.
Right now, not much else is known about the upcoming PYREX VISION x Denim Tears collection, but be sure to keep it locked to The Sole Supplier for more info as it comes in! Up next, these are the biggest fashion stories of the year so far.
