No it’s not a mistake, adidas is selling a pair of Adilette Slides for £300. Teaming up with Wales Bonner, this Spring Summer 2025 collection breaks the record for the highest prices to-date. Before you ask – no, it has absolutely nothing to do with tariff prices. If the average Adilette suddenly retailed for £300, everyone’s sneaker collections would start looking a whole lot different.
Renowned for its quality and craftsmanship, the Wales Bonner x adidas collaborations have been the hot topic of conversation for the past few years. Serving up classic silhouettes such as the Samba and Superstar in a premium light, sneakerheads and fashion girlies have been justifying the ever-increasing price point that comes with the collaboration’s premium materials. It was only recently that we saw the crocodile leather Samba sell at £250 and it is safe to say they flew off the shelves.
Well the most blatant test for that will be the two Wales Bonner x adidas Adilette Slides which will hit the shelves at £300. Landing in the “Dark Brown” and “Wonder White” colourway, there is no doubt that the two are a beautiful pair of sliders but is this a step too far?
While the two slides feature details which are “woven in Brazil” alongside a “made in Italy”leather footbed, we are still left scratching our heads trying to justify the new price point. For example the SPZL Adilette set back serious adi-heads £110, a number that fans of Aspden’s work managed to justify, but at nearly three times the cost, the audience for the Bonner Adilettes pales in comparison.
Even the viral Gucci Flip Flops which had their moment back in the mid-2010s cost $150, which adjusted for inflation today is just over $200. So coming in at almost double the cost, Future himself would be thinking twice before purchasing a pair of these Wales Bonner Adilettes.
Also dropping with a £300 price tag is the new Wales Bonner x adidas Karintha, a shoe that comes with a sequin upper. While the adidas Karintha is far from cheap, developing a new silhouette is an expensive process, especially when it comes to sequins (sarcasm aside sequins are not the easiest material to work with). So we can somewhat understand why the special edition version could be sold at this RRP.
Inspired by past models from the ‘80s-‘90s such as the adidas Fechterschuh and Riviera, as well as the recently retro-ed Tokyo, we reckon this Sequin Wales Bonner could have a massive moment across socials. Similar to the Leopard pony hair Samba from ’23, it is usually the loudest shoe from the WB x adidas projects which leave the biggest impact (even Vogue has predicted it “Might Outsell Her Silver Sambas”). So when you see your favourite influencers dancing on Tik-Tok looking like a prime-time Elton John, just know we said it here first.
The rest of the collection is equally as eye watering, with two Superstar Hi’s and a suede Karintha setting you back £220-£240. In an effort to highlight the Superstar during 2025, Wales Bonner’s collaboration on the silhouette has resulted in two minimal versions kitted out in a premium suede which take the classic Superstar to a whole new level. These might be overlooked by the vast majority of sneakerheads, but they take us back to a time when Tokyo-based retailers were serving up tasteful iterations of the Superstar. Not to mention how they perfectly sit among the Mules and sheep-lined footwear which are hugely popular today.
