The New Balance 2002R is a reliable footwear companion that deserves a spot in your sneaker arsenal. This technical retro running shoe became the epitome of the brand’s modern-day kicks that didn’t have the same prominence as the renowned NB 99X and 990X franchises when it first dropped in 2010. Having recently released a new batch of the “Ripstop Protection Pack”, the New Balance 2002R “Gore-Tex Concrete Grey” equips the sleek retro running shoe with extra durability that can withstand natural elements. And, of course, decked out in the brand’s signature greyscale colour palette in minimalist fashion.
The shoe has a traditional mesh underlay and premium suede construction in the iconic grey shade. However, what makes this pair special is the addition of a GORE-TEX membrane meant to prevent dust, debris, and water from damaging your kicks. New Balance branding adorns the sides, tongue, and lateral rear, while the GORE-TEX label sits on the heel panel. ABZORB and SBS form the midsole for a plush and bouncy sensation underfoot. Meanwhile, the Stability Web outsole provides stability and arch support. Multidirectional treads incorporate durable rubber that lasts long enough to explore cities and trails without losing grip.
