Bursting onto the sneaker scene as the figurehead in the 'Gorpcore' craze, the Salomon XT-6 quickly became a staple in our sneaker rotations thanks to it's technical style and incredible comfort. Stemming from the brand’s venture into trail running, the shoe was the sixth iteration of what started out as the XT-Wing. Although first released in 2013, it wasn't until 2020 that this shoe really took off.

From Zero to Hero: The Salomon XT-6's Unexpected Rise in Fashion
While Salomon sneakers can be seen on just about every high street up and down the country in the present moment, some might be surprised to learn ...
Drawn up by Benjamin Greney, the XT-6 is the result of gradual improvements to the original XT, however never straying too far from the performance DNA of the original. Incredibly lightweight and yet rugged, it's easy to see why this silhouette remains a hit with long-distance trail runners, but how did this shoe break its way into the fashion industry? In Fall 2018, French designer Marine Serre used Salomon’s mesh shoes in her show which drew some attention to the silhouette, whilst top Berlin stylist Rachael Rodgers also aided in giving the Salomon XT-6 a reputation in high-fashion and streetwear circles.
As a reaction to the uptick in demand, Salomon was quick to expand its XT-6 portfolio, moving away from the usual athletic colour palette and embracing the more earthy tones popular within the streetwear industry. The brand would even reissue three of their best selling OG colourways - Wren/Kangaroo, Monument/Phantom and Beluga/Black/Russet - through a RECUT capsule which dropped in January of 2023.
As the outdoor aesthetic progresses, the silhouette still remains a staple as a strong selection of colourways gives plenty of options to choose from. If you’re planning your next ultra-endurance event or just need a comfy pair of trainers ready for any occasion, you can’t go wrong with Salomon’s trusty XT-6!
