Martine Rose has officially been named Clarks’ first-ever Guest Creative Director, according to WWD. The British-Jamaican designer, who has her own eponymous label, and has previously worked with Nike, is said to have designed three pairs of shoes for the brand, which she will show during her London Fashion Week Men’s presentation in June.
WWD’s feature goes on to explain that Clarks approached Rose towards the end of last year, and invited her to learn more about the brand’s heritage. Rose has since turned her hand to reimagining three Clarks silhouettes - a loafer, an Oxford shoe and a sandal, which will be available to buy from March 2024.
Speaking to the outlet, Rose said: “Clarks is something that’s so intrinsic to British culture and obviously Jamaican culture because it’s huge in Jamaica because of the Commonwealth. There’s a couple of British brands that are really big in Jamaica because Britishness is a sign of quality and you take it out of context it takes on a life of its own, like a myth.”
Clarks isn’t the only brand to announce the appointment of a buzzy new Creative Director this year - in April it was revealed that Salehe Bembury would officially join Crocs as CD of the brand’s Pollex Pod line.
