The TikTok Famous ASICS GEL-1130 Is Our Latest Sneaker Obsession

Fans of the Y2K aesthetic will be happy to know that the trend isn’t going anywhere this year. In fact, it’s only really getting started. Techy trainers and retro running shoes were at the top of our must-have lists in 2022, and though New Balance pretty much dominated the scene with its 530 and 1906R models, a new challenger is set to take the scene by storm.

ASICS isn’t exactly a newcomer to the sneaker scene, but after a few quiet years, the Japanese brand is seeing some serious momentum behind it. Spurred on by the aforementioned trend and the fact that it’s become a TikTok fave, the legendary label could easily become one of 2023’s breakout brands - and for good reason. The model was recently the shoe of choice for a collaboration with Copenhagen-based boutique Naked, a store that’s been instrumental in paving the way for women in sneakers - and its racking up views on TikTok, too. Much like NB’s 530, it’s designed with a noughties runner aesthetic that somehow manages to encapsulate both the bold and futuristic Y2K look as well as a more understated Normcore vibe. The combination makes for super-easy styling: pair with parachute pants or nylon joggers for a throwback look, or channel something a little more laid back with a loose-fitting pair of jeans.
