Awake NY x ASICS GEL-NYC Pure Silver Green Blue Slate

Following on from their GEL-LYTE III ensemble from 2022 is this dual pack from Awake NY and ASICS debuting the GEL- NYC. Angelo Baque, former Brand Director at Supreme, now the owner of Awake NY, “went into the ASICS archive and mixed a little bit of new technology with a little bit of older design” in order to create the new GEL-NYC. As with a number of footwear drops these days, the past informs the present, yet this release is both steeped in ASICS history and a breath of fresh air.

The upper nods to the GEL-Nimbus 3, with some help from the GEL-MC PLUS V sprinkled in there too, combining the best elements to form this contemporary silhouette. The “Teal Pink” colourway is a bold entry point, forgoing the usual monotone upper that we are used to seeing introduce new models. However, the New York-based brand has never been one to shy away from loud colours, just take a look back at that "Rich Gold" of ASICS GEL-Kayano 5 360 they did back in 2019.

The teal blue panelling is contrasted by a light pink hue that wraps around the midsole and GEL technology. The silver mesh helps tone things down, recognising the DNA of past ASICS releases that the GEL-NYC took inspiration from. The Awake-NY logo sits on the heel in its signature font, adorned in a simple white that keeps co-branding to a minimum. Underneath, the GEL-CUMULUS 16’s tooling is present, making these super comfy to wear.
