New Balance 550 White University Blue

The New Balance 550 was definitely one of the hottest retros which came out of 2021. Originally designed by Steven Smith for the basketball court, the shoe struggled to find an audience during its original release in the late 80s. This couldn’t be further from the truth today as New Balance has noticed the love for the retro’d silhouette. Pumping out colourway after colourway, sneakerheads and mainstream consumers alike still seem to be swallowing up release after release.

This “White University Blue” version of the NB550 sees the notorious University of North Carolina’s colour scheme making its way onto the upper. Obviously, the classic NB grey can be found on various leather panels as well the sole of the shoe. The design team kept it classic by using a predominantly white upper, letting the tooling and complex layered design do the talking. The simplistic New Balance “N” can be found on the outside of the shoe, along with subtle branding on the heel and tongue.
